Heroes Of Darkmoon

The Rugdumph Heirloums

We have entered the main base of what appears to be a group of acid-mutated goblins. The goblins here were, as far as we know at this stage, experimented on along with many other creatures including a Girallon. We were forced to, after coming close to death in battle with the aforementioned Girallon and a Black Pudding (An Ooze), rest in a sealed off room.

Continuing with the quest to retrieve the Rugdumph family heirloums, Sethiropth Magothem and Bruce Awe-some ventured deeper into the base. After narrowly defeating a room filled with Goblins and poorly maintained floorboards, they attempted to clear a path up a chamber flowing with acid. This went poorly at best, as Sethiropth was killed in the process, leaving only Maximus Aura as the only active member of the original team Claude put together for the Darkmoon Guild. The group has holed themselves up in a side-chamber, near where Seth met his end. Seth requested just that if he dies to go out with a bang by setting off all of his firebombs at once.

Upon arriving at the final chamber, Maximus Aura and Johm Smith were met by a goblin shaman, who had placed a force-field around his lair. As the barbarian forced his way though, the field was cut out as an adult Black Dragon burst from the acid surrounding the lair, and ripped the shaman in two. A frantic battle ensued between Man ( and Dwarf) and Dragon – One only won when Shyet Systafer arrived, rescuing Maximus Aura from near certain death, and aiding the pair fight off the beast. It was eventually slain, and the Darkmoon Guild were able to retrieve the items which were stolen from Lord Rugdumph.

On returning to their employer, Rugdumph quickly took the sword and book from the guildmembers, and trapped them in a paralisation field, using this time to cast a ritual. Whatever the ritual was expected to do in unknown, but two things are certain – That his purposes were not begign, as he was transformed into a hideous monstrosity that was able to spawn small versions of itself, and that whatever the Lord’s plan was, it involved a “Chained One”. Upon Rugdumph’s tranformation’s death, the beast fizzled and dissapeared in a black flame, leaving behind little more than a mysterious chain, which Johm Smith is currently wearing around his neck.

The Castle In The Sky
Undeath at 20,000 Ft

The Darkmoon Guild returned from their journey across the planes, having made a new ally, but lost Slicer, Rodney and Khelgar. Several quiet weeks passed, with the Guild having little to do barring train themselves, and become incredibly drunk on Cranberry Juice. Fortunately for all involved, Claude managed to uncover an anonomy within Darkmoon borders – a mysterious floating object, slowly tracing a path across the skies.

The Darkmoon Guild, aided by Claude’s airship he had somehow kept hidden, took to the skies in search of whatever had appeared. As they drew closer, two things were discovered. The first thing was that it appeared to be some form of partially ruined castle, and the second was that someone (Or thing, for that matter) was attempting to protect it, as the Guild had to fend off several attacks on the vessel.

Once the airship actually docked with the castle, Sethiropth Magothem and Dante Riverside set off to explore the ruins. Upon the castle, they encountered large numbers of undead beings, with barely a few actual persons in the area – All of whom were hostile. By the time the intrepid pair arrived at the top, they (Along with Maximus Aura, who overslept and had only just caught up with them) had uncovered parts of a parchment covered in Arcane Runes, seemingly some sort of an unfinished ritual.

On the roof of the Castle, the Guild briefly witnessed a figure escape upon some form of winged beast, ushered away by a Skull Lord, who turned his six eyes upon the Guild in fury. In a desperate battle, Maximus and Sethiropth managed to overcome the undying mage, and found a third piece of the ritual scroll – However, the scroll itself was still incomplete. Gathering what they could, the Darkmoon Guild left the ruined castle, leaving it to drift it’s course across the skies, and returned to Darkmoon.

Early Tales Of the Darkmoon Guild Pt. 2
From The Arrival of Dante, To The Death of Both Khelgar and Rodney

On returning home, back to the Dark Moon Pub (The current location in which the Guild is based), the members were greeted by the newest arrival to the team – A Paladin named Dante Riverside. As the Guild began it’s customary “Drink-Until-You-Pass-Out” initiation celebration (Strangely enough, it is hard for people to pass out by drinking Cranberry Juice), it was rudely interupted by a group of Goblins bursting through the front door of the pub. These Goblins were covered in glowing arcane runes – And on the death of the creature tattoed with the runes, they spontaneously exploded.

Enraged at their alcoholic beverages being ruined by being exploded, the group tracked the Goblins to a nearby cave system. They battled through, with only a few minor hitches (Such as the tunnel nearly collapsing, and the knowledge that if a magical barrier broke, then they could drown in the tunnels), until they reached the lowest level. Here, a mage and his goblinoid lackeys prepared to fight to the death – Until they were engulfed by a spirit eating demon. The death of the mage shattered the barrier, and the final few souls eaten by the demon allowed it to manifest a physical form. Desperately, the group battled both demon and flood in an attempt to escape. Once the demon’s physical form was destroyed, both Dante and Slicer attempted to end it’s physical form – Dante by releasing the trapped souls, Slicer attempting to absorb their energy. In the end, Slicer succeeded, and gained a new power, but also a new curse – He hungered for souls.

Within a week of barely escaping with their lives, the Guild was informed of the location of a rumoured cult, similar to that they had fought. They set off to uncover the truth behind what was going on, or at least, put an end to it. On arrival, the Guild found a small cloister of guards in a shack. They defeated those, and freed a person who was forced to fight for the guards – A Prismatic Man, known only as Gerald. He had came through a nearby portal, and was captured in the process. The group entered this portal, which led to the prismatic plane, a place of confusion, illusions, and very, very gaudy colour schemes.

Within the town to which they had been teleported, the group found a bandit group with similar traits to the runic cult. On attempting to bring them to justice, it turned out the entire town was actually “In” on the bandit’s schemes. After fighting their way clear, the group eventually arrived at the Cult’s headquaters, having been directed by a captured bandit. They infiltrated the cult, and, in a scene of minor-ultraviolence, managed to stop the entire cult – However, in the process, Maximus Aura was cut down by a pair of swordsmen. The group then took Maximus’ body with them through a portal into the Material Plane – However, not all the group wound up in the correct location, as Khelgar Copperfist found himself in the Underdark, and Rodney Frostbottom found himself into the Abyss.

Early Tales Of the Darkmoon Guild
Until the Defeat of Avonathemon

Fresh from being hired for the Darkmoon Guild, and straight into the nearest danger. The way it begins for all who join.

The original Darkmoon members (Jimmy Darkbow, Khelgar Copperfist, Maximus Aura, Sethiropth Magothem, Rodney Frostbottom and Slicer Shadowforce) journeyed to a tomb system relatively far from Darkmoon, which was experiencing “Visitors” in the form of a small Goblin clan taking up residence there. The Guild, dispite minor setbacks such as waking the dead and getting seperated, wiped the tombs clean, and began what would become a quite perilous journey back home.

Within a day of their return journey, the Guild ran into a large blizzard – Unusual, seeing as it was both Summer, and in a wooded area. They eventually stumbled upon the source of the (What they found to be) magical weather – A mysterious tower, encased in ice. After a brief skirmish outdoors with some animated statues, the group found what was responsible for this – A group of Ice archons, who had taken over the tower. The group battled to the roof, where they found how this was taking place – Through a huge crystal, tied to a Spirit of Winter. After a daring battle, involving Maximus having his life saved by Shadowforce (Through, albiet, a slightly “Unorthadox” method), the Spirit was destroyed, and the group were able to move on.

Between the Tomb and Darkmoon is a small area known as “Relkingham”. Well known for it’s success as a mercantile haven, the reputation of the area was to be dragged through the mud by a rogue Vizier called Avonathemon. Avonathemon had recently imposed a new tarrif to those entering the area, and a most unusual one at that – Each group had to sacrifice a hand and an eye to the Vizier. A council member of Relkingham met with the Guild, seeking their aid in uncovering why this new tax was to be imposed. The guild, not wishing to hand over their limbs, agreed to do so. The Darkmoon Guild travelled to a nearby village, and met with the Founder of Relkingam. After a brief discussion, the founder was convinced to end the tax – However, Avonathemon had already gained enough hands and eyes to begin a foul ritual. By the time the Guild arrived at the Temple where Avonathemon had holed himself and his minions (Alive and undead), he was already part-way through it, creating a beam of pure necrotic power which he intended to absorb. As the Guild entered, Maximus was flung into the beam by one of Avonathemon’s magical powers, and promptly cut down by a barbarian in employ of the Vizier. It was here that Maximus was killed, and has to have his body dragged from the temple to a nearby cleric, to be ressurected. Avonathemon was stopped, mercifully, and the Guild returned to Darkmoon, pockets distinctly lighter from the Raise Dead fees.
